The artist Jens Risch spends many hours every day tying knots in a thousand metre long silk thread. Knot upon knot is tied until it becomes impossible to tie another one and a compact, fist-sized mass has been created: an extremely compressed ball of time. Between the 1st of October 2004 and the 18th of January 2009, Risch knotted Silk Piece II. The result is concentrated energy and at the same time an accolade to slowness and a pointed, critical comment on issues such as work, speed and art production.
Jens Risch was born in 1973 in Rudolstadt, Germany, and lives and works in Berlin, Germany. Selected solo exhibitions include "Jens Risch: Silk Piece V, 2011 - 2012" at Bischoff Projects, Frankfurt am Main, Germany (2014); "Jens Risch: Seidenstueck I & Seidenstueck II (Erster Teil)" at Weissfrauen Diakoniekirche, Frankfurt am Main, Germany (2007).
